Update #5 (10/25/17): Translation Crusaders

11eyes -Tsumi to Batsu to Aganai no Shoujo- 11eyes-罪と罰と贖いの少女- [English Patched] plugin. 11eyes.tpm (136 KB) 11eyes.tpm.sig (212 B). 11eyes - A Denwatls Translation. If so, the TL is for the allages or +18 version?? Strange the game works without the English patch, but.

OOOOoooo...It’s YourResidentFireMage back with a SPOOPY update, just in time for Halloween!

Let’s get right to business. Since I found the game’s text files, i’ve managed to team up with u/SSShowmik to translate the somewhat ludicrous amount of text this game has. So far, we haven’t managed to translate much, as this was a relatively recent collaboration, but I can assure you that this aspect is progressing steadily.

Additionally, I’ve decided to post a rough timeline of sorts below to let you all know roughly where this project stands currently and what still needs to be done before v 1.0 of the patch can be released:

  • Dump the Game’s files (complete)

  • Locate the text files (complete)

  • Reformat/Translate the text files (in progress)

  • Test the translated files via emulator (some small progress, but a lot more to go) -Test on CFW (Still to come)

  • Release

  • Consider possible OFW release (optional)

As you can see, there’s still plenty of texting to be done before I can even announce a release date, but as we progress further into testing, I plan to show off footage of our progress, both in-emulator, and hopefully, on PS3 hardware:

With that said, I can once again affirm that translation is progressing steadily and more good things will be coming down the pipeline soon.

Until next time,

YourResidentFireMage

Update #4 (9/27/17): Patch is Unbreakable (PROGRESS)

I have slept for 100 years (or 4 months) at the bottom of the Internet. Now, with my new Stand「HACK THE PLANET」, I shall awaken once again and bring an end to this patch once and for all!

But seriously, I want to start with an apology. I know it's been way, WAY too long since I've said anything regarding the patch, and I have no one to blame for that but myself. To be honest, I had given up. I thought this patch would never get done and after providing update after update of, 'I'm working on it!' I genuinely didn't see any way that I would ever decrypt those files, and I was too embarrassed to admit defeat after hyping you guys up for so long. You may not believe me, but know from the bottom of my heart that I am truly sorry.

But wait, isn't this update titled Patch is Unbreakable?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

I FOUND THE GAME'S TEXT FILES!!!!!!!

FINALLY, after so long, I discovered where the game's text files were being stored. It turns out that I didn't need to do any decryption at all and that a large portion of the game's text was in files and folders I'd somehow overlooked. This means two things for the state of the patch:

A) Now is the time where translators would be a big help in moving the patch forward, because unfortunately, I'm not fluent in Japanese. I know a few of you down in the comments said you'd love to help way back when this project was announced. If you're still up for it, I could use all the help I can get!

B) When trying to find the game's text files about a month ago, I stumbled across something a little unexpected. Another chunk of the game's text (mostly from menus and UI elements) is stored within models and textures. I probably should have anticipated this, but 3D modeling/texturing is extremely out of my comfort zone. (I'm a Computer Science/Game Design major, not an artist!) That being said, if there are any 3D modeler/texture mapping types out there who'd like to help out, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

And now for a technical update...

11 Eyes English Dub Episode 1

My original plan for the distribution of the patch was for two methods to be available to the average Jojo fan. They could either patch the updated files directly onto their physical copy of the game via their computer and a disk drive, or they could copy their save data onto a USB and patch their save on a computer before copying the save back to the PS3, effectively telling the game on bootup that a 'version 2.0' patch was available and that it could be installed from the save data. (This could also work as a standalone patch file, as you can load just about anything from a USB on a PS3, including Linux.)

Unfortunately, I have had to abandon the former method, as Blu-Ray discs can't be recognized by most disc drives, and fewer and fewer computers even have disc drives nowadays. Thus, this method would be very impractical at best and downright impossible at worst for the average person. However, I am confident that I could get the latter method of USB loading the patch onto a PS3 given some time.

Well, that's about all I have to say at the moment. I will be much more active on here and in general now that I'm back at college, so feel free to drop me a question/comment/concern. I'd be more than happy to clear anything up for you guys and gals.

It's good to be back.

Update #3 (6/12/17): A Call for Help

Hey all, sorry I'm a couple days late with this update. It's been a busy two weeks.

Spoiler alert: I haven't gotten much done in the way of cracking that encryption. I've started threads on XeNTaX and ZenHAX, two dedicated game research forums and haven't gotten a single reply.

As of now, I can think of three possible ways in which I could crack this code and keep the project going.

Option 1 would be to start a thread on /r/Encryption, which I'm in the process of doing right now. It's possible someone over there might be familiar with this type of encryption and could direct me towards a decryption method.

Option 2 would involve starting a thread on RomHacking.net. RomHacking.net is a well respected site that tends to host a lot of fan modding projects and managed to produce a complete translation of the Japanese PS3 version of Tales of Berseria recently. The only issue with this is that they are much more formal than Reddit and require a significant amount of work to be done on projects before I can post a help wanted ad, so I'm unsure if what I have done now would fit their criteria.

Option 3, by far the most out there at the moment, would be to contact one of the programmers or a member of the PS4 localization teams directly and ask for assistance. This is highly unlikely to work, though if it did, this would be the best case scenario.

If any programmers/encryption masters come across this, please DM me. I could really use your help.

Sorry that it's been so long without any progress guys, but rest assured, this project isn't dead and I do want to finish this eventually, for my sake as well as yours.

See you in two weeks,

YourResidentFireMage

Update #2 (5/27/17): Encryption Tendency

Hey everyone. YourResidentFireMage here and I figured I'd post another (bi-weekly now?) update on the status of the patch.

Firstly, as you can tell by the title of this update, I haven't made all that much major progress in the past two weeks. That encryption that currently holds most of the game's core files hostage is still giving me a rough time, so I haven't been able to start on translation or anything of that nature.

However, I've done a fair bit of research into the encryption method itself and have discovered two possible methods through which I could break the encryption for the files. I could attempt to update the Cygwin.dll file for CriPakTools, adding a line of code which would fix the 'Couldn't compute FAST_CWD pointer' error, possibly allowing it to decrypt the files correctly. The problem with this though, is that this file also appears to be encrypted or encoded in some form, and I would need to figure out how to get that file into an editable state before I could even add the line of code that would fix the error it returns when trying to decompress the encrypted game files. Additionally, I have no idea if doing so would even allow the game files to be decrypted properly. For all I know, the program could just simply return another error. CriPakTools was built for Naruto Storm Generations, so that fact that it managed to work as well as it did was a miracle in itself. Short of contacting esperknight (the program's creator), I have no way of knowing whether or not any mods I make to CriPakTools would work on EoH.

Alternatively, I recently discovered QuickBMS, which acts similarly to CriPakTools, but covers A LOT more games. While ASB/EoH isn't on that list (Jojo's Venture is though), the program's creator also developed a set of tools for reverse engineering data in game files, one of which can scan compression algorithms, and another that can scan checksum and encryption algorithms. It might be possible for me to reverse engineer a decryptor using these tools, but this would also take some time. In either case, it will probably be quite a while before I manage to decrypt all the files I need and create a massive text dump.

As usual, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to leave them down below and if anyone would like to help me out on this 'wacky journey' (I'm sorry, I had to), please PM me ASAP. Thanks.

Whelp, that's all for now folks. Hopefully I'll have some better news in two weeks.

YourResidentFireMage, out!

Update #1 (5/13/17): Phantom Progress

Episode

So I've managed to parse the ISOs, extract and decompress the CPKs (with CriPakTools), and now have a full set of all the individual XFBIN files where all the data is stored.

I'm currently able to edit the base code of any files within the following folders:

  • com

  • gimmick (not including the PS3 subfolder)

  • level

  • livetalk

  • navimesh (not including the PS3 subfolder)

  • projectile

  • save

  • spc_param

I'm unable to edit any files within the following folders:

  • adv (could potentially contain in-game text)

  • demo

  • effect

  • item (could potentially contain in-game text)

  • itempack (could potentially contain in-game text)

  • message (contains in-game text)

  • param

  • pt (could potentially contain in-game text)

  • sound

  • spc

  • spc_viewer

  • stage

  • ui (contains in-game text)

  • ui_hi (contains in-game text)

  • volume

As you may or may not know, both EoH/ASB and the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games were developed by CyberConnect2 and use similar engines and encoding. Based on the following threads, I have reason to believe that at least some, if not all of the remaining folders are encrypted in some form. However, the 'CRILAYLA' encryption that I currently have a decryption method for only appears in files in some of the above folders. Unfortunately, none of those folders contain any in-game text and from what I can gather are just models or other settings which I have no reason to edit.

Additionallly, when reviewing error messages in CriPakTools that occurred when the program tried to decompress a file that I can't currently edit, I found this string:

I'm not entirely sure what this means at the moment, but rest assured, I'm on the case. Once again, if anyone understands any of the problems listed here and would like to lend me a hand, please DM me when you get a chance. It'd make this process go much faster.

Well, that's about all I have for now. I'll be sure to post another update when I find a breakthrough.

Until next time,

YourResidentFireMage

Original Post (4/30/17):

So I'm currently working on a patch that would swap the Japanese text of the PS3 version of Eyes of Heaven for that of the English localized PS4 version, allowing you to play the game on older hardware in English.

This will likely happen one of two ways, either I will create a patch that can be added to current EoH Save Data via the Bruteforce Save Data tool, or post the modded files, at which point you would need to edit your own disc and swapping out the specified files for the modded ones.

The first method would require you to copy an EoH save onto a USB, transfer the save to a computer, open the save, decrypt the data and search for cheats in Bruteforce. Then add the provided code as a new 'cheat', apply it, encrypt the save data again, then launch EoH with the modded save (effectively telling the Game Data to delete all in game text and replace it with the text contained on the save).

The second method would require you to insert the EoH disc into your computer, parse the ISO, extract and decompress the .CPK files, and swap out the specified .XFBIN files for the modded ones, then put everything back together on the disc. This method would only be possible for the disc version of the game, as you cannot copy Game Data to a USB, and the PS4 has not yet been fully hacked.

Because the modding community for EoH/ASB is virtually nonexistent as of now, I am unsure which method would work successfully, hence why I've included both. The Bruteforce method would take less time and be easier to follow, but is less likely to work, as I'm unsure of the full extent that Save Data can be used to modify Game Data. The disc-based method is much more likely to work, as the Game Data is being directly modified on the disc, but the process is a bit time consuming and difficult to perform without proper instructions.

Additionally, this patch will very likely require 'cracked' firmware or OS 3.55. (4.81 is the latest OS at the time of writing.) I am looking into what may be a breakthrough that would allow me to run this patch on original firmware, but it still seems unlikely that will happen.

That being said, don't expect this patch to be finished anytime soon. I may have experience in programming and am pursing a career in Game Design, but this is still my first major modding project. This combined with the aforementioned fact that the current modding communities for these games is very small, means that it will be some time before this project is finished. I do intend to finish it however, or at least pave the way for future modders. This is not something I will shelve easily.

Finally, if anyone has experience in modding these games, fan translations of PlayStation games, or PS3 modding in general and would like to help out, feel free to PM me. (I need all the help I can get.)

DUE TO OBVIOUS LEGALITY ISSUES, I CANNOT PROVIDE THE ISOS FOR THIS GAME OR ANY OTHER SUCH CONTENT.

Yours truly,

YourResidentFireMage
